Moving From Thoughts to Reality

Dr Joseph Murphy’s book titled The Power of Your Subconscious Mind brings the idea of banishing fear with autosuggestion. He gives examples of people repeating words and phrases to themselves at different times in the day which are opposite to their fearful thoughts, including overcoming temper, restoring memory and getting rid of anxiety. People from different walks of life and belief systems have identified that we hold a large amount of power within ourselves to influence what happens in our lives and the birth place is in our own minds. Be careful what you think, because your thoughts run your life (Proverbs 4:23 NCV). You literally hold the power to create the reality you want to see within your own mind. You need to align your thoughts with your attitude. When you maintain the attitude of a successful person, a happy person, a peaceful, a loving person, you bring more of that into your space. William James states that you can alter your life by altering your attitude in your mind. You become what you think about. How do you change your attitude? Earl Nightingale explains in Change Your Life in 19 Minutes, “begin to act as would the person you most want to become.” If you already have the things you want, how would you behave? This is how you bring more of what you desire into your life. Even recently at Bible Study, my pastor mentioned how Genesis describes God creating the heavens and the earth through speaking them into existence. Just like a plane rises when there’s turbulence, we have to rise above circumstances when there’s turbulence in our lives. When the world was without form & void, God spoke light and there was light (Genesis 1:2-4).

Too many people are describing how their current situation instead of constructing how their future should be. You were cut from that cloth, you can create the world that you want to inhabit. When things are happening in your life, what are you describing? Speak life when you see death. Find out what it’s meant to be like & speak it.‬‬

Practice makes permanent. Just like studying helps you understand a subject to the level of it having the ability to influence your own way of thinking, repeating the desires of your heart to yourself daily can have the same effects. Be intentional with what you want. The more you tell yourself you already have it, the more you’re able to convince your mind that you do until it becomes real. Remove the “want” from the equation. Example, “I want to be happy”. The “want” makes it seem distant. The more you say it, the further away it seems. Say to yourself “I am happy, I have happiness, happiness belongs to me”. It can be and is yours, if you allow it to be.

An excerpt from The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Joseph Murphy reads: “Begin now to sow thoughts of peace, happiness, right action, good will, and prosperity. Think quietly and with interest on these qualities and accept them fully in your conscious reasoning mind. Continue to plant these wonderful seeds (thoughts) in the garden of your mind, and you will reap a glorious harvest. Your subconscious mind may be likened to the soil which will grow all kinds of seeds, good or bad. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Every thought is, therefore, a cause, and every condition is an effect. For this reason, it is essential that you take charge of your thoughts so as to bring forth only desirable conditions.” (Murphy; 9, 2014). The subconscious mind is affected by the thoughts placed in the conscious mind. When you become more deliberate in your thinking, focussing on the thoughts which welcome more of what you want in your life, you begin to plant seeds for a harvest of those good things. The more you think in line with what you want, the more the subconscious accepts this as it’s reality until it becomes a belief. You have to even take a step further and feel what you’re saying. Really step into the words that you speak. Just as Tony Robbins explains the difference between affirmations and incantations (, you have to command your subconscious mind to embody the words that you speak. That’s where the shift happens, from thinking to feeling. Look at yourself in the mirror daily and speak what you want to see in your life, what you want to feel and who you want to be. Continue until you become it. Let it be a daily practice and any quiet moment in the day, remind yourself of who you are and what’s coming. You hold the power to make real lasting changes. You just have to get yourself to a place where you feel it. Begin today.
